As I walked through my living room, a sepia-colored glow streamed through the French doors leading to my backyard.
Of course, I ran outside like a third grader at recess to check out the evening sky and see what was causing the strange coloring.
The sky was clear except for one giant fireball-looking cloud that hovered right above me.
It was exquisite.

Already engaged in a group text with my brothers, I shared the photos with them but didn’t post them on social media, even though it was a remarkable sight.
I didn’t share because I’ve seen similar sky images from others, and although I recognize their “pretty,” I’m mostly unfazed and scroll on without fully appreciating the image.
Think about it: Most every shared image of nature is prefaced with, “The picture doesn’t do it justice.”
Why can't we fully appreciate shared beauty?
1. Pictures can’t capture the FEELING of the experience. Even the photographer cannot fully appreciate the image of what they just witnessed. (Think screensavers!)
2. Unlike outrage, Peace, Gratitude, and Awe are non-transferable, and therefore images of nature may pique the viewer's interest, but their emotions will remain unaffected.
3. Any natural occurrence can be filmed and described ad nauseam, but without feeling and emotion, the miraculous experience falls on deaf ears and blind eyes if not experienced firsthand. (Think childbirth!)

Along with all the other things soul-nourishing activities, simply spending a few minutes in a backyard on any given day can bring us unexpected rewards. Peace, gratitude, and awe are just footsteps away!
Go To The Grass!
