Steven Rodgers said,
“Beginnings are usually scary, endings are usually sad, but it’s what’s in the middle that counts.”
These words echo the truth that while the bookends of life—birth and death—are filled with uncertainty, it’s in the middle where love, adventure, and memories are formed. It's (certainly) the "Middle" that sustains us when we lose someone.
Sometimes, I like to escape to a fantasy world and imagine that the people we’ve lost are just going on a FABULOUS TRIP.
Maybe:
… they’re “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” and we (just) don’t know when they’ll be back again.
… they’re “On the Road Again,” and they’re excited about going places that they’ve never been and seeing things they may never see again.
… they’re a “Ramblin’ Man” and just want us to understand that it’s time for leavin’.
… they’re goin’ back to a simpler place and time on a “Midnight Train to Georgia.”
… they’re “Born to Be Wild” and are just heading out on the highway and looking for adventure in whatever comes their way.
We all have ONLY one guarantee, and that is we will ALL take THAT trip someday, so in the meantime, as we await our “Time to Say Goodbye,” let’s overstuff our "Middle(s)" with LOVE and appreciate “What a Wonderful World” we are fortunate enough to experience.
