Words with Weight

The other day, I contracted someone to do a job at my house. I didn’t call around, get five quotes, or shop for the best deal. I just reached out to one person, and within an hour, we had an agreement.
That’s not like me.
I’m careful about who works at my home—and even more cautious about how I spend my hard-earned money. But with this person, I didn’t hesitate.
Why? Because about six years ago, the owner of this company said something kind to me. Nothing dramatic—just a few sincere, helpful words. I was going through a rough patch, and though they probably had no idea, their words lifted something off me. Just enough that I could take one deep breath. I’ve never forgotten that moment.
So, when this job came up, I knew exactly who to call. I wanted to support her the way she unknowingly supported me.
Maybe she needed the work— just like I once needed those kind words.
That’s the thing, isn’t it?
We never know when something small we say will make a big difference for someone else. Since we’re all so good at masking our struggles, we don’t always see the weight a person’s carrying, but our words can lighten or add to the load.
So now, before I speak, I think about that weight and try to choose my words like they matter—because they do.
Have you ever experienced the power of a well-timed word?
